November Lodging Council Meeting

Dear Lodging Members,
Great conversation today about programs for lodging. Many noted the desire for networking exclusive to the lodging community. Since we have Business After Hours for you to network with other businesses, some great ideas included:

  • Regional connections (along Hwy. 66, Fall River, Hwy 7, Lake) to get to know our neighbors and host open house visits so we can become more familiar with nearby properties to refer and refer supply chain solutions.
  • The lodging trade show in April could have a vendor showcase during the morning and then we can turn the room for cocktails to focus on an “Estes Inspired” theme with Visit Estes Park to provide a taste of member restaurants and bars… something your whole staff might enjoy.
  • The trade show luncheon might include a panel of speakers from Visit Estes Park, the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Assn, Destination Analysts and Air DNA. We would have guided conversations at each table for members to share best practices and success strategies as they get better acquainted.
  • One member suggested a speaker panel that includes banks and realtors to talk about the value of your property based on financial performance.
  • A former EALA board member suggested we create a Facebook group for lodging so you can access each other’s wisdom and share information faster than the Chamber can send a group email!

This is your chance to sound in. Scroll to the end of this page and add any ideas you have to add to this list. We ended the call with

  • The Community Recycling Committee information on the barriers and opportunities for recycling.
  • An open invitation for a member of the lodging community to serve on the TAB & Shuttle Committee.
  • More information below on a new coffee table book from the museum that would look great in every hotel lobby in town – our guests love to binge on history!!

Enjoy a copy of Estes Park Museum Friends & Foundation Press publication, Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park: Then and Now, revised edition. The book explores over 150 years of town and valley history by comparing historic photographs of over 140 historic landmarks. Then & Now features nearly 500 images of the Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park area, many of which were published for the first time.

Former Colorado State Historian Thomas “Dr. Colorado” Noel remarks: “For all of us who are fascinated by the history of Estes Park and neighboring Rocky Mountain National Park, it is exciting to have this award-winning book back in print and in a new and greatly enlarged edition. The historic photographs, their stunning contemporary companions, and the accompanying authoritative, well-researched text by Estes Park Historian Laureate Jim Pickering, give us all a better sense of what life was once like in the high mountain region that bears the name of Kentucky pioneer Joel Estes... For residents of Colorado, old and new alike, as well as for countless others, Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, Then & Now provides a marvelous introduction to the history of two of America’s best loved and most visited places. This is the kind of book that one wants to keep close at hand – to read and savor and then pick up and read again. Bravo!”

The Then and Now book can be purchased for $59.95 in the Museum Gift Shop or ordered online from the Estes Park Museum Friends & Foundation! As always, Museum members receive a 10% discount on shop merchandise.

In addition to the book, Then & Now content can be found on the Estes Park Museum’s YouTube channel. During three different 2020 programs, author Jim Pickering and photographers Mic Clinger and Derek Fortini discussed book highlights, their favorite sites, and local lodges. The speakers reveal how they took photographs for the revised edition as well as providing historic information of each accompanying site.
