Town Board Decision and Vacation Rental Council Action

After many presentations and much deliberation, including a counter motion from Scott Webermeier, the board voted on Option B to protect the 322 vacation rental licenses already in place but prevent future licenses from being transferable. This will go into effect 30 days after filing on Friday of this week, so if your license is approved in 30 days, you're in. If your license is not approved in the next 30 days, your new license will not be transferable.

Several people stood up and asked the goal behind this vote. Trustee Martchink stated plainly that the goal is to reduce the inflation of home prices tied to the transferability of vacation rental licenses. He gives the history of the decision if you want to hear more on the recording.

One thing that became clear in the deliberations is that the Board has a need for an access to a wealth of data from our vacation rental community. The action the Chamber will take is to activate an advisory council and discuss with the Town Administrator how we can be included at the table in future decisions concerning vacation rentals.
