Have you ever wanted to learn watercolor? Join us for a beginner-friendly series designed to take you from the very basics to a finished painting. Through guided, step-by-step lessons, you will get comfortable with essential materials, explore foundational color concepts, and practice simple techniques before moving into sketching, layering washes, refining details, and completing a full piece. It’s perfect for true beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills.
In this class, you will get an introduction to core supplies, fundamental techniques like wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry, and basic color theory through hands-on exercises and approachable projects. You will learn how to work with different brushes, mix colors effectively, and understand how water and pigment interact to create a wide range of effects.
- Supplies: The class will cover the basics of what you need, such as types of paper, paints, and brushes, and how to choose them.
- Fundamental techniques: You will learn core skills
- Washes: Creating smooth, even coats of color.
- Wet-on-wet: Applying wet paint to a wet surface for soft, blended effects.
- Wet-on-dry: Painting wet paint onto a dry surface for more controlled and sharp lines.
- Glazing: Layering transparent washes of paint to build up color and depth.
- Dry brushing: Using a brush with very little water to create textured, broken marks.
- Color theory: You'll explore the color wheel, how to mix colors to create a wide palette, and how to use color for harmony and value.
- Brushwork: You will practice different types of brushstrokes to develop control and confidence with your tools.
- Creative exercises: Expect simple exercises to experiment with materials and techniques, such as creating value scales, color charts, and practicing basic shapes.
- Hands-on practice: The class will involve a lot of hands-on work, allowing you to experiment with how water and paint interact.
