J1 Host Information

We hosted an information session for J1 hosts as a service to our members looking for summer workforce. Here is a link to the video recording of our meeting. You can access a copy of the slides here.

Estes Park customarily hosts over 500 Summer Work Travel exchange participants on a J-1 Visa to fill our summer workforce needs.  The past few years have been a challenge for the program. The Chamber has been working with host companies to provide a more seamless experience for the workers and the employers. We have been interviewing other chambers in tourism towns to learn how they are supporting the J1 program and providing a great experience for these visiting students from around the world.

InterExchange has been a valuable resource in our efforts to help our members with J1 host requirements, workforce housing, and assistance with worker documentation. Clay Lewis and Kevin McGowan have agreed to provide our members with some strategies to get your application in and arrangements made for summer 2022.  Here's a short list of actions we are taking as a result of this meeting:

  • Research hotels for sale that could be used as a temporary solution
  • Model our own home host program after the EF program which is the exchange program at the high school
  • Partner with employers and local volunteers for a group orientation
  • Create web page on esteschamber.org as a hub for host and student information
  • Create Facebook group for employers now and students this summer
If you would like to be more involved in this initiative or if you need to be connected with a J1 host agency, contact Donna Carlson at director@esteschamber.org. We will continue to post resources her until the web page is built. Please add to the chat any resources you have to share.
